When Generosity Becomes a Way of Life

We often assume generosity begins with emotion. We see a need, our hearts are stirred, and we give. While those moments are meaningful, God’s Word points us toward something deeper: generosity that grows from intentionality rather than emotion.

Jesus said, ‘Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much’ – Luke 16:10. Faithfulness is built through small, consistent decisions. Opportunity by opportunity. Long before generosity becomes significant, it becomes a habit.

Jennifer and I recently spent a week with our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren – all 15 of us. As we reflected on our time together, we were reminded that generosity is often less about a single gift and more about intentional priorities. More than 35 years ago, my parents began investing in family vacations that strengthened relationships across generations. We have simply chosen to continue that legacy, using the resources God has entrusted to us to create meaningful time together.

Intentional generosity takes many forms. It may be paying for a grandchild's camp, quietly helping an aging parent, supporting a missionary each month, or investing in a Kingdom-building ministry. The greatest inheritance we leave isn't measured by the size of an estate but by the example of faithful stewardship, open-handed generosity, and trust in God's provision.

May God give each of us a heart that delights in intentional generosity, trusts Him with every resource, and leaves a legacy defined by what we joyfully surrendered for His purposes.
